 2012  Resident Camp OPTIONS

Classic Camp
Classic Camp is a week-long resident camp program geared for campers entering 3rd - 9th grade.*  Session 3 is a special 3-day condensed option. Classic Camp offers traditional summer camp activities such as swimming, archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, campcraft, drama, nature, hiking, photography and challenge course as well as activities centered on the weekly theme. Classic Campers may sign up for one or two optional horseback rides during check-in at camp, for $8 per ride. 
 
An Adventure Tripping program is available for Classic Campers entering 6th grade and older. Overnight and/or day trips may include canoeing, backpacking or other type of special trip. Interested campers will work together to select and plan their adventure! 
"Early Bird" fee:  $320    After May 15:  $335
 
* Soon-to-be 2nd graders who enjoyed camp last summer may also enroll in Classic Camp.

Discovery Camp
Discovery Camp is a 3-day resident camp program recommended for campers entering 1st - 3rd grade.*   These younger campers receive more supervision, and will be introduced to many activities and traditions of Camp Hitaga such as archery, camp crafts, nature adventures, group skits, aquatic games, evening programs, campfires and more.  Limited to 12 campers per session.  Sessions run Sunday through Wednesday.
"Early Bird" fee:  $165     After May 15:  $172
 
* First-time campers entering 4th grade may attend Discovery Camp with permission from the Camp Director.  During Session 3 (July 1-4) the limit of 12 Discovery campers is lifted.

Stirrups & Saddles
Stirrups & Saddles is Camp Hitaga's horse-specialty program, open to campers entering 4th - 9th grade. Older campers may attend with permission of the Camp Director. Campers will be placed in beginner, intermediate or advanced riding lessons based on the Camp Hitaga riding staff's assessment of each camper's skills at the beginning of each session.  In addition to riding, Stirrups & Saddles campers will learn and practice principles of caring for and partnering with a horse.  Other camp activities are available as well. Evenings are spent enjoying the camp-wide activities, including theme activities.     "Early Bird" fee:  $390    After May 15:   $405

Adventure Trip:  Canoe Voyager 
For campers entering 6th - 12th grade, Session 5 offers the challenge of a three- or four-day canoe trip. Campers will plan and prepare, then take water and food with them and work as a team, cooking and living in the outdoors as they camp out along the river. Pre- and post-trip evenings are filled with fun “all-camp” activities, including weekly theme activities. Swimming skills are necessary for this experience. If the river is unusually high or low, a lake trip will be planned.   "Early Bird" fee:  $320     After May 15:  $335

Theme:
Olympics
We celebrated the summer Olympics with our own opening ceremony, games, events and awards.  Throughout the session the Olympic spirit and ideals of fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship were highlighted.

Theme: EEK! Week

The Great Outdoors took center stage this week.  Campers chose to join expeditions to explore Camp HItaga's many acres in search of critters of all kinds.  All creatures great and small, our young explorers found them all!

Theme: Little Big Camp
Big imaginations come in small packages - KIDS!  Though this was a short week, we spent eons exploring new games, out-of-the-box ideas and pursuing creative endeavors.  An attitude of YES prevailed.  No idea was too wild!

Theme:  Grand Quest Week

Cabin groups were provided clues throughout the week leading them to destinations across camp where they performed tasks and overcame challenges to collect various pieces of a puzzle that when assembled ultimately led to a Grand Prize!

Theme: iSpy Week  /  Adventure Trip: Canoe Voyager
Campers trained to be secret agents and selected missions to save the camp from great peril.  They broke codes, wore disguises, learned spy manuevers at spy school and put it all together to save Camp Hitaga for all future campers!

Session 6:  Week of July 22
Theme: Be A Hero - and Aquatica too!                                 
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes: this week was about exploring the idea of superheroes.  Campers took part in a superhero counselor hunt, created comics, and walked in the footsteps of heroes both real and imagined.  Throughout the week campers were challenged to find their own unique superhero abilities -- and enjoyed lots of water activities too!

Session 7:  Week of July 29

Theme: Aquatica
Wet, wild fun prevailed.  Camp Hitaga became a water-world where campers slipped and slid, build their own canoes, tried water sports of all varieties and practiced watercolor painting.  All things water... Aquatica!

 Shaping Tomorrow's Leaders

The Staff Development Program is designed for young men and women entering 9th-12th grade who sincerely desire to work with children, enjoy being close to nature and aspire to become leaders in their communities. 

This is a four-year progressive program with summer stays at camp progressing in length from one to three weeks.  Teens selected for this program will first receive leadership training, and then, with supervision, live and work with children during a session at camp. In addition, there will be two weekend SDP Retreats held at Camp Hitaga during the school year - one in the fall and one in the spring.
